(KMZA)--The scam itself isn't exactly new, but its presence in the local area, and the way it's being committed, is a new development.
Committed by cell phone texting, Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon says area residents should be wary of any such unsolicited contact(Play Audio)
If someone receives such a text, do not reply, but, as a matter of safety, review your official bank account information to make sure there are no unauthorized expenditures.
Vernon says if someone is an intended victim of the scam, they should also notify local law enforcement.
