(KAIR)--Those residents and visitors who frequent the International Forest of Friendship, near Atchison's Warnock Lake will, for now, need to find a new spot for their autumn strolls.
According to a release from Forest of Friendship Board Member Diane Liebsch, the forest is closed temporarily for sidewalk repairs along the walking trail, with the estimated time for the closure being 4 to 6 weeks.
The project, the release notes, is funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Parks and Trails.
The sidewalks in the Forest were designated as the first National Walking Trail in Kansas and showcase the 1600 names of honorees who have contributed to aviation and space, emphasizing "world friendship through flight."
According to the release, the repair project is paving the way for the 50th anniversary of the International Forest of Friendship set to be celebrated next year.
Updates on the project and the date of the reopening of the Forest may be found at http://www.ifof.org .
