( KNZA )-The Brown County Commission has renewed contracts that will continue to pay court-appointed attorney’s in the county a flat monthly fee for 2013.
The commission Monday approved contracts with attorney’s Andy Delaney of Hiawatha, Judd Herbster of Sabetha and Northeast Kansas Legal Services.
Delaney and Herbster will each be paid $2,200 a month, while Northeast Kansas Legal Services will be paid $1,000 a month. That’s the same as what they have been paid since the commission first approved entering into the contracts, beginning May 1st of this year.
Previously, the attorneys had been paid on a case-by-case basis.
The commission was told that going with a flat monthly rate will help in the budgeting process because actual expenses will be known, and it will help the attorney’s by cutting down on paperwork.
District Judge Jim Patton last week recommended that the county continue with the flat fee contracts.
The fees will be paid from the District Court budget.
In other business, Glacial Hills R C & D Director Gary Satter updated commissioners on the organization’s activities and requested the $2,000 annual appropriation from the county, which the commission approved.
And the commission approved the appointment of Jeffrey Gormley as the Padonia Township Treasurer as recommended by the Township Board.
