Johnson-Brock School Board Approves Budget
09/14/2012

(KTNC) - Increased property valuations will mean a significantly lower property tax levy for patrons of the Johnson-Brock School District.  The Johnson-Brock School Board approved the budget and property tax levy during Monday’s meeting.
The board approved a total budget of expenditures totaling just over $3.4 million for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
An increase of more than 30-million dollars in property valuations in the district will result in a tax levy that’s nearly 20-cents lower than last year.  The total levy requested this year by the Johnson-Brock School District is 89-cents per $100 of assessed valuation.  Last year’s levy was $1.08.
Superintendent Jeff Koehler says the levy for the General Fund is 80-cents, the Bond Fund levy is five cents, and the district is including three cents for a Special Building Fund levy so the district can set money aside for future maintenance and repair needs.  (play audio  :26)
Koehler says the higher property values combined with the lower levy will allow the district to meet its budget needs.  (play audio  :44)
In other business, the Johnson-Brock School Board accepted the resignation of Industrial Technology Teacher Scott Versch, effective at the end of the first semester.  The board offered a contract to Landon Mackey to teach Industrial Technology effective January 3rd.
Koehler says student enrollment in the Johnson-Brock School District is holding steady, with 278 students enrolled this year.  That includes 23 students in this year’s Kindergarten class.
