(KNZA)--Despite a washout for all but a few events Friday evening, a Labor Day tradition got back on track, once the rain moved out, and gained a strong turnout during the weekend.
The long running Wathena Fall Festival is timed, each year, with Labor Day, and was scheduled to begin Friday evening. However, heavy rains moved in, putting an end to numerous planned events, including the annual pie eating contest and carnival rides for the children.
Saturday, however, was a different story, as the sun moved in, along with warm temperatures, and welcomed crowds to the Doniphan County community.
Vendors were pleased to see the turnaround, including Kayla Hinton, of the Kids' Craft Station Smart Camp, and Debbie Lehmer, known, throughout the local area, as “The Enchilada Lady”(Play Audio)
Along with games, carnival rides, and plenty of food, activities during the weekend included parades and live entertainment, as the Wathena Fall Fest ran all day Saturday and Sunday prior to wrapping up, for another year, Sunday evening.
