 (KLZA) The Falls City Sacred Heart Irish will travel to Pawnee City tonight.  It is the season opener for both teams.  The Irish are ranked 1st in D2 in the Omaha World Herald and 4th in the Lincoln Journal Star in the pre-season polls.  Pawnee City is coming off a great 2011 season that ended in a very disappointing loss in the playoffs.  Despite some very good returning players the Indians are not ranked at this point.

Sacred Heart Coach Doug Goltz says his team will need to be better on defense tonight than they have been in recent years against Pawnee City.  ( play audio  :39 seconds ) 

Goltz says Pawnee City senior back Devon Marteney might be the best back his squad will see this season.  ( play audio  :32 seconds ) 

Pawnee City Coach Mitchell Shepherd is happy with his squad but says the Irish will be a big challenge in the season opener.  ( play audio :27 seconds ) 

The Falls City Tigers open the season at home tonight.  New head coach Darin Fritz says his squad is ready to play a game.  ( play audio :13 seconds ) 

The Tigers host Ashland-Greenwood tonight.  The Bluejays were hit hard by graduation in the spring but Coach Fritz expects they will be ready to play on both side of the ball. ( play audio :18 seconds ) 

Pre-game coverage for the Sacred Heart – Pawnee City game begins at 6:25 p-m this evening when we bring you the Peru State Coaches Show.  Kickoff will be at 7 p-m.

The Tigers can be heard on A-M 1230, KTNC tonight beginning at 6:30 p-m.
