County Fire Leads to One Citation
08/20/2012

(KAIR) -- A brush pile set on fire early Friday afternoon south of Atchison leads to a lengthy effort for firefighters and one citation for violating the county’s burn ban.

According to Atchison County Undersheriff Larry Myer, fire crews from Walnut, Mount Pleasant and Shannon townships responded to one point five miles north of K-74 and Rooks Road just after 12:30.

Upon arrival, crews fought the multiple brush piles for several hours before they were able to contain it.

Crews also responded on Sunday to the same area to continue to contain hot spots.

Myer says, as a result, Richard Lee, Senior was cited for unauthorized burning during a burn ban, which has been in effect for nearly two months.
