Atchison Man Pleads Guilty on Multiple Charges

(KAIR) -- After serving over four months in jail, a 30-year-old Atchison Man pleads guilty to multiple charges Friday in Atchison County District Court.

Matthew Billington pled guilty to the charge of felony theft and misdemeanor interference with a law enforcement officer.

Billington was arrested in early March by Atchison Police on a warrant for allegedly taking a laptop computer on February from Atchison Middle School when visiting his sister for lunch.

Upon his arrest, Billington resisted and was eventually taken into custody.

He could face five to 17 months in prison on the theft charge and up to a year in the county jail on the interference charge.

A delay in his case occurred after Billington’s attorney filed and then was granted a motion for a competency evaluation for Billington.

He was found competent to stand trial on July 23rd.

Billington was released on a PR bond on Friday, since he qualifies for presumptive probation on the charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 24th.
