(KAIR) -- Three area lakes remain under a public health advisory due to the presence of toxic-blue green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Thursday the Atchison State Fishing Lake, Brown County State Fishing Lake, and Centralia Lake in Nemaha County remain under advisory status.
Water activities like boating and fishing may be safe; however, direct contact with water (i.e., wading, swimming) is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.
Fish from the lakes should be cleaned and rinsed with clean water, and only the fillet portion eaten.
KDHE will continue to monitor the situation.
