07/16/2012

(KAIR) -- An Oskaloosa man will serve several months of prison on felony theft charges.

Brian Rich was sentenced to at least 20 months Monday in Atchison County District Court.

He was also given additional time by state law for a felony parole violation on a 2009 Atchison County theft conviction and 2010 theft and forgery convictions in Jefferson County by state law.

Atchison County Judge Martin Asher invoked the special rule in the theft cases which carried 10 months each.

He was also given a six month prison sentence on an interference with a law enforcement officer charge that will run concurrent to the theft sentences.

He was arrested by Atchison Police after a tip led authorities to an alleged burglary in progress on May 17th in the 1400 block of North 15th Street where several thousand dollars in electronics were discovered in Rich’s possession.

Another person allegedly involved in this case, 19-year-old Ellen Keo faces felony charges of theft, interference with a law enforcement officer, burglary and misdemeanor criminal damage.

She will have a preliminary hearing on the counts on July 24th.
