(KTNC) - The Nebraska Department of Roads released the fiscal year 2013 Surface Transportation Program on Friday.
The 2013 State Highway System program calls for $372-million to be spent on improvements to state highways. The Local System program – for city streets and county roads – totals $78 million.
A total of 142 new projects will be let to contract on the State Highway System in 2013. Projects on the list will be contracted, but may not be completed, in the next year.
Among the larger projects is resurfacing 6.8 miles of U.S. Highway 75 and Nebraska Highway 2 north of Nebraska City.
In southeast Nebraska, the fiscal year 2013 plan calls for milling and resurfacing 2.7 miles of Highway 50 north of Pawnee City; repairing a bridge at the junction of Highways 75 and 67 in Nemaha County; and removing the Rulo Bridge.
Fiscal year 2013 runs from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
Among the projects on the five-year plan are resurfacing Highway 8 west of Falls City to Highway 75; resurfacing a nine-mile stretch of Highway 62 in Richardson County from Highway 75 to Highway 67; milling and resurfacing several sections of Highway 67 in Richardson and Nemaha Counties; resurfacing 12.4 miles of Highway 50 near Pawnee City; and resurfacing Highway 136 through Auburn east to Brownville.
Bridge projects on the five-year program include the Highway 4 Bridge over Turkey Creek near Steinauer, and re-decking the Big Nemaha River Bridge on Highway 105 near Humboldt.
The five-year program covers fiscal year 2014 through fiscal year 2018.
