Atchison Man Pleads Guilty to Multiple Felonies
07/02/2012

A 35-year-old Atchison man pled guilty to multiple amended charges Monday in Atchison County District Court.

Gabriel Walls pled guilty to the felony counts of theft and conspiracy to commit theft and a misdemeanor count of theft in one case.

In a plea deal, Walls pled guilty to misdemeanor theft in another case.

In exchange a felony burglary charge was dismissed.

Walls was arrested in late December by Atchison police for conspiring and then taking a generator worth over a thousand dollars from a residence in Potter.

He was also convicted of taking a lawnmower from his mother’s Atchison residence in a similar time period.

Walls’ case was postponed for several months after he was sent to Larned State Hospital in March after being deemed incompetent to stand trial after being removed from Atchison County Jail custody for having “psychotic issues.”

Last week, he was once again deemed competent to stand trial and returned to jail from Larned.

Another person involved in the theft cases, 20-year-old Lynn Ball, was found guilty and sentenced to probation earlier this year.

Sentencing for Walls is set for July 30th.

He could face five to 17 months in prison on the theft charge, five to 13 months on the conspiracy charge and up to a year in jail on each misdemeanor.

He remains in Atchison County Jail.
