The noted author and biographer of Blessed John Paul II, George Weigel, will deliver the commencement address during the annual ceremony at Benedictine College, set for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium on the college campus in Atchison.

Along with Archbishop Joseph Naumann from the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, Weigel will receive an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

Archbishop Naumann will also be the celebrant for the Baccalaureate Mass on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in St. Benedict’s Abbey Church on the college campus.

Weigel, a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, currently holds that organization’s William E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies.

He won world-wide acclaim in 1999 with the publication of Witness to Hope: The Biography of Pope John Paul II.

Weigel has been awarded thirteen honorary doctorates, the papal cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, and the Gloria Artis Gold Medal by the Republic of Poland.
