An Auburn church plans to open an early an early childhood development center in the location of a former day care center.
Members of Trinity Lutheran Church voted in February to open the center at 1320 20th Street. Church spokesman Dennis Wittmann says the church will operate the licensed day care center, to eventually serve up to 70 children. (play audio :40)
The center will operate initially between six a.m. and six p.m., though the church hopes to someday offer round-the-clock service, including before and after school programs for children up to age 12.
The center will be modeled after the Open Arms Institute’s early childhood development model. Wittmann says the church plans to open the center August 1st, after remodeling the building. (play audio :31)
Wittmann says the church is in the process of hiring a director for the center. Trinity Lutheran has operated its pre-school for more than 30 years, and Wittmann says they will continue operating the pre-school at its present location.
