Eight Kansas legislators have endorsed former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, including a local legislator.
Gingrich's campaign announced the endorsements Thursday. The Republican lawmakers include two state senators and six Kansas House members. Among them is Representative Trent LeDoux of Holton(Play Audio :24 seconds)
However, conservative critics of Gingrich have criticized past comments made by the Speaker, including statements saying that the first amendment may have to be revised, and that he was a Rockefeller, not Goldwater, Republican(Play Audio :30 seconds)
The state's Republican presidential caucuses are March 10th, with 40 delegates to the GOP National Convention at stake.
