The city of Hiawatha receives good news.
City Administrator Lynne Ladner informed commissioners Tuesday evening that the city had received word that it’s been awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant through the Kansas Department of Commerce for the city’s sewer improvement project. The city will provide more than one million dollars in local matching funds. Ladner said the grant will help the city in it’s application for funding through USDA Rural Development.
Hiawatha is under an executive order from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to reduce rain and ground water from entering the city’s sanitary sewer system.
