(KAIR)--One man lands behind bars—facing drug charges, while a female suspect eludes police.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson told MSC News officers responded to the 700 block of Parallel Thursday evening around 5:00 after neighbors reported suspicious activity.
“There apparently was a male and a female looking around cars and walking around a house,” Wilson said. “The officer immediately did locate a male and a female who were getting ready to leave in a car.”
Wilson said the male suspect was immediately detained and searched—which led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his person.
Wilson says that led to an arrest for the 29-year-old, St. Joseph resident Christopher Powell. He was booked into the Atchison County Jail where he remains.
The female suspect, on the other hand, fled from officers and has yet to be located.
“We have determined who we believe that she was,” Wilson said.
However, he says there’s two things police have yet to determine.
The first, is ensuring they have the woman’s identity correct.
“Then, to see if she ran because she’s wanted on some outstanding charges or warrants,” Wilson said. “Secondly, if she did flee from an officer who was investigating suspicious activity, she was given lawful orders to stop and not run. So, we do have charge of obstructing legal process pending against her. She will face a charge of running from the officer.”
Wilson said no other crimes were discovered in the neighborhood regarding the suspicious activity.
