Increase Sought for Providing Senior Meals

Brown County Courthouse

(KNZA)--Horton’s Mission Village Living Center is seeking an increase in what they receive from the county for providing meals for the county’s meals on wheels program.

Administrator Patricia Raasch met with the Brown County Commission this week to request a 50 cent per meal increase, citing rising food costs.  In addition, Raasch says they can no longer afford to provide someone to delivery meals out-of-town one week a month.

Currently, the county is paying the Mission Village Living Center  $1.30 per meal and clients pay $2.70 a meal.

Raasch said it cost them $5.00 to $5.50 a meal, so they are not even breaking even.

During the past 3 months, the nursing home has provided 969 meals to seniors in southern Brown County.

The Commission took no action. Commissioners asked Lori Gray with Services for the Elderly to look into options and report back to them at their next meeting.
