(KNZA)--A pavement resurfacing project is to begin Monday on a 15-mile stretch of U.S. 73 Highway in Atchison County from the east city limits of Horton to Lancaster.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the highway will be reduced to one lane for both directions, in several mile intervals, along with intermittent closures of adjacent crossroads throughout the project.
Traffic will be directed through the work zone by a pilot car and flagger operations. Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible and drivers should use alternate routes, if possible.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Herzog Contracting Corporation, of St. Joseph, Missouri, is the primary contractor on the $2.1 million project. The project is scheduled to be completed in October, weather allowing.
