High school students in Brown, Jackson, Nemaha, and Shawnee counties can win scholarships in Washburn University’s Be Ready Challenge, a business pitch competition sponsored by the School of Business. The goal of the competition is to encourage entrepreneurially minded students to develop, pitch, and implement their ideas.
To enter, students from participating high schools must register at pitchstartwin.com by February 29, 2016. Registered students will then submit a three minute video explaining a business startup idea or an innovation for a current business or organization. Based on the video presentations, up to 20 student teams will be selected as finalists and receive $500 to develop and implement their ideas during summer 2016.
In September 2016, finalists will present the results of their summer entrepreneurship experience. Scholarships will be awarded to those students who best exhibit the characteristics of an entrepreneur. First place team members will each receive $2,500; second place $1,500; and third place $1,000.
For more information and to register as a participating high school, visit pitchstartwin.com or contact Rick LeJuerrne at 785-670-1306; rick.lejuerrne@washburn.edu.
This is the second year Washburn has offered a high school pitch competition. In 2015, students in Brown, Jackson, and Nemaha counties participated in the Tri-County Challenge; more than $15,000 was awarded in scholarships.
