(KLZA)-- The Community Medical Center Board of Directors has approved an $8-million expansion project with a groundbreaking expected in the spring of 2016.
The project is to include a new family medicine clinic, additional surgery space, imaging enhancements and renovations to improve the hospitals orthopedic and specialty clinics at the Falls City facility.
CMC Administrator Ryan Larsen says the clinic addition is designed to accommodate new doctors that will be coming to the community. The existing building was first occupied six years ago and Larsen says there has been enough growth that a need to expand exists.
The construction will create a new primary care clinic and house orthopedics separately. It will also create a new physical therapy entrance.
The surgical expansion and renovation will be built to handle orthopedic cases. To handle orthopedic cases additional surgical room and more space to process, sterilize and store the large amount of specialized items involved is required. Other types of cases handled at CMC will also be utilizing the additional space.
Altus Studios, based in Omaha will serve as the architects for the project. A construction committee including board members, hospital administration, medical staff and community members will select a construction management firm yet this month.
The construction portion of the total budget is estimated at $6-million.
