(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of deception, resulting in a near $9,000 loss for a rural Sabetha company.
According to the Sheriff's Department, someone falsely representing themselves as the superior of an employee requested, by email, that funds be transferred to their whereabouts.
The U.S.C. employee, believing the person sending the email to be her boss, arranged for the funds to be transferred from the company's account to the person. However, it was later learned that the company official wasn't who they said they were, leaving the custom seed treatment equipment manufacturer with an $8,900 loss.
It happened sometime during the afternoon of September 29th.
So far there's no word on any specific suspects in the case as the investigation continues.
