(KAIR)--Atchison city officials are taking another step in constructing a dog park in the city.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says bids have been received to construct fencing at the park, which is scheduled to be constructed at the intersection of Fourteenth and Laramie. “The biggest deal is getting the fence bids opened, the expenditures are just under $12,000 for a new six foot high fence, and gates, and terminals, and posts, and all that stuff to the fence.”
Pregont adds that other possible park features are also being discussed. He says “there are several features of dog parks that are really important to get right...the spacing, the fencing, the parking, where we need water lines so that we have spouts where people can get water for their dogs. We have to put together a plan on how to affordability come up with some of the equipment and signage.”
The fence bids will be presented to the City Commission during Monday's meeting for their review. Pregont says that if approved, construction could be completed by late summer or early fall of this year.
