Every community has a unique story. Kansans can save their stories with a grant from the 2016 Heritage Trust Fund (HTF) grant program, Kansas Humanities Council, Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, or Community Service Tax Credits from the Kansas Department of Commerce. A free grant workshop will be presented 1 – 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Kansas Historical Society, 6425 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka. Attendance is highly recommended for anyone planning to apply for these grants. To be placed on the attendance list, contact Marsha at 785-272-8681, ext. 240; cultural_resources@kshs.org. Participants’ contact information is requested in the event of a cancellation.
The Heritage Trust Fund grant program is administered by the Kansas Historical Society, a state agency. The program funds projects for properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places or the Register of Historic Kansas Places. Qualifying expenses include professional fees and construction costs. Properties owned by the state or federal governments are not eligible. Individual grant awards may not exceed $90,000 and must be matched by the grant recipient. The deadline for the 2016 round of HTF grant applications is 4:30 p.m. November 2, 2015. For more information about HTF grants or to apply, visit kshs.org/14617.
