(KNZA)--Special recognition was given to two Hiawatha police officers during Monday evening’s City Commission meeting.
Officers Michael Gruber and Beau Hasenohr were presented with Medal of Merit awards for going "above and beyond the call of duty."
Police Chief John Defore said Officer Gruber is being recognized for some outstanding work in a burglary case. He said police had no information or suspects in the case. Defore says from a grainy video, in about three hours, Gruber made three arrests.
He said Officer Hasenohr is being recognized for delivering a baby. Hasenohr was dispatched to a local residence on June 4th to assist with a woman in labor. Upon arrival, the baby was crowning. Hasenohr delivered the baby and got the infant breathing. Shortly after, EMS personnel arrived.
Defore says the Medal of Merit is the third highest honor an officer can be awarded.
