(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission has proclaimed a state of Local Disaster Emergency for the county due to recent heavy rains and flooding.
The action taken Monday could possibly qualify the county for state and federal assistance.
County Emergency Management Director Randy Linck estimated damage to public infrastructure in the county at $500,000, which he said is a soft figure as county and township officials have not been able yet to fully assess damage.
Commissioner Steve Roberts said there’s some undermining on two bridges in his district. Commissioner Warren Ploeger reported some log-jams on bridges and some road erosion.
County and township officials plan to meet Tuesday morning with an official from the Kansas Division of Emergency Management to learn the steps the county will need to be take to receive possible assistance.
