(Lincoln)-- Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Director Scott Frakes has named Julie Smith as the new agency legal counsel for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
Smith currently serves as the Johnson County Attorney, with experience in jail standards, HIPAA and medical care, inmate mental health & suicide prevention, good time laws, use of force, inmate lawsuits, communications with the Ombudsman's Office, release of sex offenders, and prosecution of inmates for crimes occurring while incarcerated.
Smith says she is looking forward to this career change.
Director Frakes states he is in the process of reorganizing the department, finding the leadership talent needed to address the challenges NDCS faces.
Smith will start on June 22, 2015. Her salary will be $100,000.
