(MSC News)--Nine local area businesses and service providers receive recognition as part of Business Appreciation Month.
They are a part of a total of 23 Regional Business Excellence winners and 52 Merit Award winners being honored by the Kansas Department of Commerce during the annual month-long commemoration in June.
The 75 winners were nominated in one of four categories: manufacturing/distribution, service, retail, and hospital/non-profit.
Two Atchison-based entities are named as Regional Winners, with the long-running Blish-Mize Company earning the distinction in the manufacturing/distribution division, while Nell Hills earns the honor in the retail category.
The Brown County based NEK-CAP, Inc is named a Regional Winner in the Hospital/non-profit category.
Locally based Merit Award Winners include Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas-Atchison Emergency Assistance Care Center, in the hospital/non-profit division. Hiawatha Thriftway is recognized in the retail category, while four others earn honors in the service division: JD Construction, of Marysville; Kellerman Insurance/Kellerman Real Estate, of Holton; Maple Wood Lawn and Landscape, of Hiawatha, and Razorjack Recruiting, of Atchison.
Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George says, in a new release, that those receiving recognition “have helped grow the Kansas economy, create jobs, and invest in their communities.”
