(KTNC)-- Memorial Day is this Monday, May 25th. Memorial services and programs kick off in Southeast Nebraska on Sunday. Here is a list of area events.
Events taking place Sunday May 24th
The Table Rock American Legion Post #289 will hold programs at the following Cemeteries
-Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery, Rural Steinauer at 11 AM
-St. Anthony's Cemetery, Steinauer at 11:30 AM
-Bohemian Cemetery, east of Table Rock at 12:15 PM
-Table Rock Cemetery, Table Rock at 1 PM
Czech National Cemetery, southwest of Humboldt – Service starts at 3:30 PM. The speaker will be L. Joe Stehlik. A program of Czech music will be performed
Dubois Cemetery- Program will be held at 7 PM with flowers being placed on the grave of an unknown soldier.
The American Legion Post #336 will hold programs at the following locations around Crab Orchard.
-Vesta Cemetery at 10 AM
-Crab Orchard Cemetery at 11 AM
-A lunch will be served at the Crab Orchard Community Building.
Events taking place Monday May 25th
Rulo Cemetery – Service starting at 9:00 AM. The speaker will be Air Force veteran Ken Simpson
Falls City - Program is at Steele Cemetery starting at 11:00 AM. The speaker will be Navy veteran Ray Vinsonhaler.
Stella Cemetery - Service starting at 10:30 AM
Humboldt- The Humboldt Legion Memorial Day Program will take place at the City Park Square at 11 AM. Legion Auxiliary will serve lunch following at The Meeting Place.
Pawnee City Cemetery- Program starts at 11 AM. The speaker will be former State VFW Commander Harold Schlender. Lunch to follow at Legion Hall
Auburn - The Auburn American Legion Post #23 will hold a service at the Legion Park in Auburn at 10 AM. The speaker will be Retired Colonel Bryan Bequette
The Burchard American Legion Post #156 will hold programs at the following cemeteries.
-Lewiston Cemetery, east of Lewiston at 9:30 AM
-Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, south of Lewiston at 10 AM
-Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, west of Burchard at 10:30 AM
-Burchard Cemetery, south of Burchard at 11 AM
-Basket dinner at noon at the Burchard Community Building
The Tecumseh VFW will hold programs at the following locations
-9:30 a.m. - Maple Grove Cemetery
-10:00 a.m. - St. Andrew Cemetery
-10:30 a.m. - Spring Creek Cemetery
-11:00 a.m. - Tecumseh Cemetery
-11:30 a.m. - Veterans' Memorial - Courthouse Square - Rev. Ken Tubbesing speaker
The Bickel-Nelson American Legion post #360 will hold programs at the following locations around the Cook area.
-Helena Cemetery at 9:30 AM
-Cook and Grace Lutheran Cemetery at 9:50 AM
-St. Paul's UCC (Osage) at 10:10 AM
-Livingston Cemetery at 10:30 AM
-Mt. Hope Cemetery at 10:50 AM
-A Memorial Day Dinner will be held at the Cook Community Center from 11 AM to 1 PM.
The Tracey-Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek will hold programs at the following locations around Elk Creek
-Grandview Cemetery, northeast of Elk Creek at 9:30 AM
-St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery, southeast of Elk Creek at 10 AM
-St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, southwest of Elk Creek at 10:30 AM
-Mt. Hope Cemetery of Elk Creek at 11 AM
-A potluck meal will be served in the Elk Creek Fire Hall at noon.
