(KNZA)--A St. Joseph restaurant has closed its doors unexpectedly.
KQ2-TV reports employees at Bob Evans on the North Belt Highway were told Saturday that the restaurant was closing and spent the day Sunday cleaning out the restaurant.
Employees were not given a reason for the closing. However, a statement from the company indicates the restaurant was closed because it was underperforming.
The statement said employees were offered transfers or severance benefits.
About 30 people worked at the restaurant.

Bob Evans sent KQ2-TV this response about their closing in St. Joseph:
Closing a restaurant is a difficult decision, but as a public company, we have an obligation to our shareholders to improve our results each year. We work hard to make all of our restaurants profitable, but there comes a time when we have to make a decision to close underperforming restaurants for the overall health of Bob Evans Farms.
Whenever we close a restaurant, we do our best to assist impacted employees by offering positions in nearby locations wherever possible. We were able to offer all employees at this location transfers or severance benefits.
We are very grateful to all of our employees for their efforts and for the support of the St. Joseph community. For employees moving on to other opportunities, we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
