Group Addresses Commission About Low Water Crossing
(KMZA)--A group addressed the Nemaha County Commission this week about a low water crossing on the Nemaha-Marshall County line in Home Township.
The group said they would like to see a bridge installed at the location.
Commissioners and County Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum said the low water crossing is on the Marshall County inventory, and therefore it is ultimately up to Marshall County what gets done at the location. However, the Commission said they would be willing to split the cost of a new bridge with Marshall County.
Commissioners advised the group to speak to the Marshall County Commission about the issue and see what they think should be done.
In other business, discussion was held on the replacement of the roof on the existing law enforcement building.
Sheriff Rich Vernon says the existing roof had been looked at by an insurance adjuster following a hail storm last August and was declared a total loss.
Jerry Stallbaumer with Bern-based AHRS Construction, which is constructing the new jail, gave Commissioners a price quote to replace the shingles with a metal roof. However, Commissioners instead requested that he get bids to replace the roof with new shingles.
The work will be coordinated with the building of the new jail, which will attach to the existing building.
And the Commission approved the purchase of a new storm siren for Kelly. County Emergency Management Director Todd Swart obtained a quote from Haug Communications to replace the existing siren for just over 48-hundred.
