K-16 Resurfacing Project Begins In Pott Co.

(KMZA)--A resurfacing project has begun on a more than 19 mile portion of K-16 highway in Pottawatomie County from the K-99 junction to the K-63 junction.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project includes the milling of 2 ½ inches of existing pavement followed by a new 2-inch asphalt overlay. Once the mill and overlay work is completed, KDOT crews will apply new pavement markings on the resurfaced roadway.

Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. The work will be coordinated so that all lanes will be opened to traffic by one-half hour before sunset.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane for both directions in several mile increments as crews begin work on the west end of the project at Fremont Road moving east. Then crews will relocate to the east end of the project and move back west towards Fremont Road.

Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car and flagger operation. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.

Hutchinson-based APAC Inc. is the primary contractor on the more than $2.5 million project. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-to-late May, weather allowing.
