(KLZA)-- The Humboldt – Table Rock – Steinauer School Board met this week. The Board voted to approve offering contracts to the District principals for the 2015-16 school year. Compensation for the principals and the non-certified staff will be approved at a later meeting.
Superintendent Clint Kimbrough provided an update on the building addition project at the Humboldt site. The west hallway one story structure walls are up along with some framework for the new main entrance. Plumbers are working on the north portion of the addition and in a couple of weeks the pre-formed walls for the north section of the addition should start to be set in place.
The Board also voted to continue the 1-to-1 computer program where each High School Student at HTRS is provided with a laptop. This will be the fifth year of the program and it’s time to purchase replacement laptops. Just under $76,000 will be spent for approximately 130 new laptop computers
Board members approved hiring Don Oswald as the new Counselor. He will replace Trudy Fankhauser who is retiring. A softball cooperative with Johnson County Central was approved for the next school year and an agreement was approved to have Luke Boldt and Greg Peterson serve as the Drivers Ed instructors. They provide the program in several area schools. HTRS Drivers Ed students will be transported to Johnson County Central for the classroom portion of the program.
Because of late starts and days missed due to weather the school year has been extended by one day for students. The last day of school will now be May 20th at HTRS.
Superintendent Kimbrough said the Board is also interested in vocational education program and will be putting the word out to state representatives of the interest. Letters to the Governor, State Senator Watermeier and the State Education Commissioner will be included in mailings so HTRS will have the districts foot in the door should grants or funding for vocational education become available in the future.
The date of the June Board meeting was moved back one day to June 9th.
