(KNZA)--Two arrests are made in connection with a suspected case of arson in Brown County.
Sheriff John Merchant says the investigation was launched following the February 22nd fire that happened in the area of 200th Road and Bittersweet Road. “Emergency crews responded to the structure fire. It was an old granary,” Merchant tells MSC News. “The Brown County Sheriff's Officers responded, and with the Fairview Fire Department, they discovered some crucial evidence, and that made the difference in solving the case.”
Now in custody are two Powhattan residents, 19-year-old Codey Wamsley and 22-year-old Dylan McGinnis.
Wamsley was arrested on charges of arson and felony obstruction while McGinnis was arrested on a charge of arson.
Both remain in the Brown County Jail.
Merchant commends the efforts of the volunteer first responders in determining the fire to be suspicious, which then led to the apprehension of the suspects.
