(KAIR)--The St. Joseph School District has started taking the steps needed to fire its Superintendent.
According to KQ2-TV, the district decided to fire Dr. Fred Czerwonka on Friday, just days after a state auditor released a report accusing the district of several violations related to fund mishandling.
The audit resulted from claims made by District Chief Financial Officer Beau Musser that Czerwonka gave out $250,000 in unauthorized stipends to administrators. Musser says that he was suspended for the claims.
The district has to notify Czerwonka in writing on the details of his termination, and he will have the chance to respond. The process could take up to ninety days.
Czerwonka was hired to replace Melody Smith, who unexpectedly retired from the job in 2013.
