(KNZA)--Brown County Appraiser Paula Jones has died unexpectedly.
Jones, of Reserve, died Sunday evening at an Omaha hospital at the age of 55.
She had worked in the Brown County Appraiser's office for 25 years, and had served as county appraiser the last six years.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jones will be held Saturday morning at 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha. The Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha is handling arrangements.
During a phone call Monday with Brown County Commissioners, Anna Porter with the state Division of Property Valuation said she is available to help the county in filling the void created by Jones’ death.
Porter will meet with the Commission Friday and bring a contract for their approval. She is expected to be appointed as acting county appraiser.
Her first priority will be assisting the county in getting property valuation notices sent out. They are to be mailed by March 1st, but the county is expected to be granted an extension due to the circumstances.
