Falls City Library and Arts Center
(KLZA)-- Falls City Librarian Hope Schawang presented the Falls City Library and Arts Center Annual Report to the City Council this week.
According to the report the Falls City Library and Arts Center has the highest circulation of materials of any library in the area including Beatrice, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth and Fairbury while operating on one of the tightest budgets with fewer staff members than most of the other libraries.
In 2014 there were nearly 83,000 materials circulated and more than 22,600 uses of the 26 public computers at the Falls City Library. Schawang said during an average week, the library in Falls City has over 800 patron visits.
Schawang thanked the Council, Mayor, Library Foundation and the staff, Richardson County Arts and Humanities Council and Friends of the Library.
The Falls City Library has many partners and offers a wide variety of programs for patrons. All of the programs offered at the library are free and open to everyone.
Open hours are Monday thru Thursday from 10 a-m until 8 p-m and Saturday’s from 9 a-m until noon. Schawang talked about some of the goals for the next year, including a return to “Excellent’ accreditation status in Nebraska that was lost due to funding. She would also like to increase the number of staff members and hours the library is open to the public. Schawang is hopeful that a county agreement for non-resident fees can be set up and she would like to find funding to change all of the microfilm over to a digital format.
Currently the Falls City Library and Arts Center has a staff of five people.
