(KAIR)--An Atchison man, accused of the abuse of a two-year-old child, made his first appearance in Atchison County District Court Friday after waiving extradition from Clay County Missouri.
34-year-old Christopher McNeal was formally charged with aggravated battery and abuse of a child during the appearance. It was also determined that he was eligible for a court appointed attorney, and Andrew Werring was appointed to represent him.
McNeal also asked Judge Martin Asher for a reduction of his $100,000 bond. Asher denied the request and set the next court appearance for February 20th.
McNeal was arrested on February 4th after an investigation by the Atchison Police Department determined that he allegedly caused serious injuries to the head and abdomen of the child.
The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition.
