(KLZA)-- The Auburn Board of Education received an update from the Fine Arts Boosters when they met Monday. They reported on the annual activities and the ongoing effort to build a performing arts center on the school grounds. The Board affirmed their continued support of the private foundation to raise funds for the project.
The Nemaha County Leadership Group discussed their proposal to build a sand volleyball court at the City Rec Complex in Auburn.
The Board approved a $200 rate for the Drivers Education Program. The fee was reduced $50 for this year, due mostly to the drop in gasoline prices.
Auburn School Board members approved adding a month to the summer lunch program that was held for the first time in the school district last year. The program is free for anyone from birth through age 18. This year the program runs June 1 through July 31st. Costs are reimbursed by the USDA.
The school calendar for the 2015-16 school year was approved with the first day of classes for students on August 14th and a May 18th dismissal in 2016. At the request of patrons, some 1:30 dismissals will be included for In-service days versus starting school 90 minutes late.
A contract with Ultimate Team Sales was approved for the purchase of uniforms for the district for the next five years. It appears the district will be able to save about $15,000 under the exclusive contract for uniform purchases.
The Board also approved the use of school grounds for the Auburn Eagles annual July 4th activities and voted to add a Middle School Cross Country program.
