(MSC News)--Three separate crashes in two separate counties Wednesday have left two dead. 

The first wreck happened in Jefferson County, on U.S Highway 59 in Oskaloosa, shortly before 3:00. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports it happened when a car, turning northbound onto the highway, drove into the path of a southbound Westar Energy truck.

Dead is the driver of the car, identified by the Patrol as 59-year-old Winchester resident Jeanie Painter. The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Anthony Renna, of Ozawkie, was not hurt. 

According to the Patrol, only Renna was buckled up at the time of the wreck. 

Funeral arrangements for Painter are pending at the Barnett Family Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. 

The second wreck happened Wednesday evening shortly after 7 in Jackson County when a car and Freightliner Ryder truck collided at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and K-214 west of Hoyt.

Killed in the wreck was the driver of the car, 56-year-old Topeka resident Jacqueline Moore.

The Patrol says Moore was northbound on Highway 75 when the westbound  Ryder truck attempted to cross Highway 75 and failed to yield at the stop sign

A passenger in Moore's vehicle, 54-year-old Norton, Kansas resident Dwayne Anderson, was transported to Topeka's Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center with disabling injuries.

The truck driver and another passenger in Moore's vehicle were not hurt.

The Jackson Sheriff's Office, Jackson County EMS, and fire crews from Hoyt, Mayetta and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation assisted with the wrecks.
