BROWNVILLE, Neb. (AP) - The utility that owns Cooper nuclear power plant in southeast Nebraska has signed a long-term deal to buy fuel for the plant through 2034.
The Nebraska Public Power District recently approved the contract with Global Nuclear Fuel.
The contract covers nine planned reloadings between now and 2034. It could be worth more than $100 million for Global Nuclear.
Global Nuclear or one of its predecessors has provided all the fuel for Cooper over the life of the plant near Brownville, Nebraska, on the banks of the Missouri River.
Global Nuclear is a joint venture of GE, Hitachi and Toshiba that has operated since 2000. Before that its predecessor, GE Nuclear, was a subsidiary of GE.
