(KNZA )--A plea agreement has been reached in a Doniphan County murder case, avoiding a jury trial that had been scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Eric Burge pleaded no contest last week in Doniphan County District Court to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the August 2013 shooting death of Matthew Sollars. He had originally been charged with second-degree murder.
In exchange for the plea, charges of felony criminal discharge of a firearm in an occupied dwelling, aggravated battery and a misdemeanor count of hosting minors in consumption of alcoholic beverages were dismissed.
Sentencing has been set for February 25th.
Sollars died August 13th, 2013, one day after the shooting at a residence where the two men resided southwest of Troy.
Burge was arrested in October 2013 following an investigation by the Doniphan County Sheriff's Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
He remains in the Doniphan County Jail.
