(AAA)-- Gas prices continue to retreat across the country reflecting falling crude oil prices which have plummeted from a 52-week high of $107 a barrel down to $47 a barrel, reports AAA. U.S. motorists are paying an average price of $2.13 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, which is more than forty percent lower than the 2014 peak of $3.70 reached on April 28. As of January 12, 2015, the national average has dropped a record 109 consecutive days, down to prices not seen since May 2009. Barring any major increases in the global price of crude oil, AAA expects the national average price for regular unleaded gasoline to remain below $3.00 per gallon in 2015.
Retail pump prices in Nebraska have dropped a whopping 60 cents a gallon during the past month alone, according to AAA. Their Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows the state average for regular unleaded fuel is $2.01 a gallon, down from $2.61 a gallon reported on December 12. A year ago, the same fuel blend averaged $3.16 across Nebraska. Some of the lowest prices can be found in western Nebraska. Chadron reports the lowest fuel average in the state at $1.66 a gallon;
