(KLZA)-- A traffic stop by a Richardson County Deputy Sheriff led to the arrest of an Auburn teenager for possession of marijuana early Saturday morning.
According to a news release from the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Clinton Stonebarger stopped a car north of Falls City on Highway 73 that had no taillights.
The diver of the car was 22-year old Zachary J. Baker of Falls City. A passenger in the car was 19-year old Connor R. Shullaw from Auburn.
Upon making contact with the occupants, Deputy Stonebarger became suspicious and called for help from Richardson County Sheriff K-9 Deputy Lewis Barker and his drug dog, Wiley.
The drug dog gave an indication that there was possibly drugs in the vehicle, the car was searched by Deputy Stonebarger who located a plastic bag containing a significant amount of substance that a field test indicated was marijuana.
The car was registered to a family member of Shullaw’s. Shullaw claimed the marijuana was his and that Baker didn’t know it was in the car. Deputy Stonebarger placed Shullaw under arrest for “possession of marijuana, more than 1 ounce.”
Shullaw was transported to the Richardson County Jail and was booked. Shullaw has bonded out on a $1,500 bond and was released. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Richardson County Court on January 26th.
The release from the Sheriff’s Office states that Drug Enforcement is now a top priority of the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office.
