TECUMSEH, Neb. (AP) - Family members of a Nebraska inmate found dead in his prison cell last year say they have more questions than answers following a grand jury investigation into the death.
Patrick Howley died July 27 after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Tecumseh state prison.
State law requires a grand jury investigation of all in-custody deaths. But, by law, information that goes before a grand jury remains secret.
Howley's father tells the Lincoln Journal Star that someone who called him from the prison on July 27 said the younger Howley had been found with a plastic bag over his head and had committed suicide.
But no one has told the family exactly how Howley died - even after a grand jury cleared prison officials of wrongdoing.
