(KNZA)--U.S. Senator Pat Roberts made history Thursday when he was selected as chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
Roberts is the first member of Congress to hold the top Agriculture post in both the House and Senate.
The Kansas Republican said his priorities leading the Senate panel include oversight of USDA programs and policies and further hearings on farm bill implementation.
Governor Sam Brownback and Kansas Agriculture Secretary Jackie McClaskey praised the appointment.
Senator Roberts says he's humbled to serve as chairman and will continue to champion for rural Kansas.
