(KNZA)--A residential fire has claimed the life of an elderly Seneca man.
85-year-old Shirley Dwight Cleland died Saturday at the Burn Unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas from injuries received in the fire Friday morning at his home at 120 East North Street.
Cleland was trapped inside his burning home and had to be rescued by the Seneca Fire Department. Another individual escaped through a back bedroom window.
Fire Chief Allen Henry says the fire started in the kitchen area and proceeded through the back living quarters of the home. The home is considered a total loss.
The fire remains under investigation.
The funeral service for Cleland will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
