Hiawatha City Administrator Granted Pay Raise

(KNZA)--After a year on the job, Hiawatha City Administrator Mike Nichols has been granted a pay raise.

The City Commission Monday evening approved a just over $6,000 pay raise for Nichols, increasing his salary from $70,000 to $76,041. The salary increase is retroactive to December 9th, his anniversary date.

The Commission also approved an ordinance setting the salaries of city officials and employees for 2015. It includes a two percent cost of living increase.

In other business, the Commission approved and authorized the mayor to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Brown County Prevention Alliance and Hiawatha Police Department for underage drinking enforcement.

Under the agreement, the police department will receive up to $950 in grant funding. Police Chief John Defore says the funding will be used to pay the overtime of officers for two weekends of saturation patrols and for the purchase a body camera. The saturation patrols will be held prom weekend, April 11th-12th, and graduation weekend, May 16th-17th. The police department participated in a similar underage drinking enforcement campaign this year.
