(KAIR)--A couple who allegedly passed multiple forged checks in several cities in Kansas and Missouri were taken into custody Tuesday after an investigation by the Atchison Police Department.
According to Police Chief Mike Wilson, the investigation started after three Atchison merchants came to them on December 2nd with phoney checks that had been given to them for payment several weeks before. Investigators were able to track down several leads that led to the eventual arrest of 51-year-old Lee Warren of Topeka, and 31-year-old Leavenworth resident Amanda Warren in Lansing Tuesday.
Wilson says the couple was allegedly manufacturing “bogus checks with bogus names, and they actually had bogus Ids to go with that. But they were able to somehow obtain legitimate routing and account numbers that might throw an immediate check of the account off a little bit”.
Wilson says it is believed the couple passed the forged checks in several other cities including Manhattan, Topeka, Kansas City, Ottawa, and Lawrence, as well as Buchanan County Missouri.
The couple was transported to Atchison from Lansing later Tuesday, and booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including forgery and making false information.
