(KAIR)--An agreement to upgrade Atchison County's joint communications system has been finalized.
During a meeting of the County Commission Tuesday afternoon, County Emergency Management Director Wes Lanter presented Commissioners with the contracts from Motorola that would have the county enter into a ten year agreement for services and equipment for the upgrade.
Commissioners did question a section of one contract that limited them to using only federal grant money to make more than the expected yearly payment. Since funding for the upgrade comes from sales tax money, which can change from year to year, this was a concern.
A representative from the bank financing the upgrade was contacted, and after a short discussion, it was agreed to drop the federal grant money restriction. Commissioners voted 3-0 to enter into the agreement with Motorola.
Lanter says that now that the contracts have been approved, production on the equipment will start immediately, and the new system should go live around August of next year.
